Voodoo Queen by Carole Graham

Voodoo Queen
by Carole Graham

Prompt: Marie Laveau
prompted by: Kristina Schluter, during Sketch Fest #7 (October, 2010)

Watercolour and pencil. Approx. 9cm x 12cm.

Kristina Schluter says: Absolutely gorgeous job! I honestly hadn't thought that anyone was going to take up this prompt, I was so ecstatic when I saw that someone claimed it. I wasn't sure if there was anyone who would know who she was. I love how you incorporated pencil marks to shade parts of the artwork and am astounded that you managed to utilize watercolors on a piece so small. I've always found it difficult to work with watercolors at all myself xD. The flesh tone is fabulous as is the anatomy. Awesome job! ~ Reply?

Carole Graham says: Thank you for your kind comments. I like working on a small scale. She's an interesting character. Given more time I would have liked to have enlarged it a bit and include more details, such as a black cockerel, candles and bottles/jars of potions etc. ~ Reply?
