echo and narcissus (Remember me) by Carri Williams

echo and narcissus (Remember me)
by Carri Williams

Prompt: Remember me
prompted by: Monika Holloway, during Sketch Fest #30 (November, 2012)

In the story of Echo and Narcissus, Narcissus was a beautiful man who was incredibly vain, and Echo was the nymph who loved him. He cruelly rejected her, only able to love himself. She pines over him until she withered into nothing, and all that was left was a shadow of her former self- her voice. One day, Narcissus sees his reflection and can't get enough of himself, and stares at his reflection in total admiration until he too, withers into nothing but what is left behind- the flower bearing his name. I've depicted Echo's neverending unrequited love with foget-me-nots in her hair, and holding the flower that bears his name, Narcissus.
