Dragon's Pearl

Prompt: dragon claw
prompted by: Serenity Samuels-Maupin, during Sketch Fest #6 (September, 2010)

Stoneware clay. I'll finish the scales when it's a bit dryer.

Coriander Shea Detwiler says: that's going to be a bada$$ pendant! ~ Reply?

Ellen Million says: Nifty! Is it hollow? ~ Reply?

Noreen says: Oooooh, I love this! How cool.. Do you fire the claywork? Just seeing a swavarski (sp?) crystal in his grip, and wondered if/how that would work?? ~ Reply?

mikka says: It is hollow & has little clay beads inside to rattle, and will be glazed and fired. It's really huge for a pendant, but it has a hanging hole because it's based on a much smaller metal pendant I had when I was a kid, that did have a crystal for the sphere. To use a crystal with clay, I think the claws would have to wrap around a bit less, so that the crystal could be glued in after it was fired. ~ Reply?

Noreen says: Thank you, Michelle.. Oh, and it may be large for a pendant, but maybe it could be used for a pendulum? ~ Reply?

Deirdre / Wyld_Dandelyon says: Oh! Nice detailing around the leg, that I couldn't see in the thumbnail. As to firing a crystal, I think the crystal could survive the heat, but I'm not sure if that would affect how the clay fires. I have some sculpy-and-opal earrings that were fired with the opals in, as an example, though at lower temperatures and with different materials. ~ Reply?
