Prompt: Start working on an idea you have been putting off
prompted by: Anke Wehner, during Sketch Fest #45 (December, 2013)

Many sketchfests ago, Miss Megs drew a Chinese Lantern, and I wanted one. My pottery skills may not be up for it yet, but they're closer than they were. Scribbly thoughts for assembly, with three thrown and modified parts (including a foot not appearing in the original sketch -- it could have a short foot or flat bottom instead, but the hand placement in the original sketch suggests a tall foot to me) and the top ornament/handle to be cut from a slab. For this layout, with the lantern opening at the upper level of scallops, I think I'd need to make the round holes in the lid higher and/or smaller soas to preserve the integrity of the flange that holds the lid in place and have the scallops cover the sold top edge of the base. As an alternate design, the base could end at the top of the bottom row of scallops, which would leave more freedom for placement of the holes and scallops at the top, and probably involve bringing the lower row of scallops up higher to hide a solid bottom edge on the lantern top. I'm still pondering which would be more practical in a physical object.
