Ixchel - Mayan goddess by Nicole Cadet

Ixchel - Mayan goddess
by Nicole Cadet

Prompt: Lady of the Night
prompted by: Nicole Madden, during Sketch Fest #39 (July, 2013)

I've always liked Ix Chel, the Mayan goddess of Rainbows, weaving, and the moon. She has links to dragonflies, pregnancy, fertility and peace. Pencil sketch

Janet Chui says: Did you do research? It looks amazing! Love the details and composition. ~ Reply?

Nicole Cadet replied to this: I'd been reading up about Mayan/ Incan/ Aztec pantheon, partly due to some books I've been reading before I started sketchfest (also blame Cities of Gold as a child for having an interest in South and Central American art and mythology :D ). I like the less common goddesses, and am debating about turning this one into a proper painting.
