Star Geese by Kir Talmage

Star Geese

Prompt: It's full of stars!
prompted by: Yvonne Smith, during Sketch Fest #27 (August, 2012)

I desperately wanted to have a sketch in for Sketchfest! Just one was all I had time for -- on a break for work, no less -- pencil on sketch paper and a thin wash of gouache. Ten, fifteen minutes maybe? Plus a bit for finding references for the wings. The Dillons as well as Janet's branches were in my head, but this was no where near their awesomeness. I tried adding salt but wrong salt on wrong paper (it's only 60 lb) so they didn't make decent stars. I added some Sharpie white paint pen at home when it had dried, which I like (although this pen was too wide and not opaque enough yet). Thus, a color sketch. I do plan to (sometime) do this "properly" on water color paper. I might make the sky twilight-to-night (thinking Barbara Berger's _Grandfather Twilight" and Janet Chui's tree again). Or I might not. Or I might try it twice. But it's a sketch! Huzzah! And wonder of wonders, my scanner liked the blues. Whaaa?? Weird electronic beastie. 5.5" x 8", very sloppy margins (not visible in upload). Will be available when I am done with whatever final thing I do with it.

Sales are temporarily disabled while the site is upgraded. Estimated completion: March 2018!

Yvonne Smith says: The sky is lovely, and a great job with the birds too. Thank you for choosing my prompt xxx ~ Reply?

Kir Talmage replied to this: Thank you! I'm looking forward to trying it on Actual Watercolor Paper with Actual Watercolors (instead of sketchpaper with my kids' gouche-y sort of paint :) ) Ultramarine blue ahoy!

Hope Bryant says: Very nice. It almost has a soul or spiritual feeling to it. :) ~ Reply?

Kir Talmage replied to this: Thank you, Hope. A lifting? A traveling? A transformation?
