Jivvanese scrying bowl (draft) by mikka

Jivvanese scrying bowl (draft)
by mikka

Prompt: Runes
prompted by: Rowan Lewgalon, during Sketch Fest #100!! (July 2018)

This artist has posted at least one finished version of this piece!

The plain bisqued bowl I had awaiting experimental decorations seemed a good target for runes. The sheet behind it is of my years-ago scribbles taken from the Jivvanese writing in Dr. Seuss's "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are"; my sketch time was spent penciling some of those onto the bisqued bowl. Then I spent another hour and some practicing my brushwork with underglaze on paper (not shown), as making this idea look half-decent is going to take more delicate brushwork than I can usually pull off ...

Rowan Lewgalon says: This is SO cool! ~ Reply?

mikka replied to this: Thank you! I hope I can do it justice in implementation. :)

Ellen Million says: Guppy and I just got this book out of the library to read together... when I saw the title of the piece I laughed out loud! ~ Reply?

mikka replied to this: Heee! It's one page in one book, I'd figured nobody would have any idea what Jivvanese was -- thus the wordy explanation of where the runes came from. Having since picked the book back up (instead of just my earlier sketches from it), the runes are even more complicated than what I'd drawn. Happy to finally be trying something with them, though.

Mayumi Ogihara says: So cool! Hope you're going to post the finished work later. ~ Reply?

mikka replied to this: Thank you! Photos will be posted when it's done, yes, but that'll take a while, between needing painting practice and firing queue length.
